Leadership Virtual SIG Series: "Are you a Leader Worth Following?"
How to Develop Stronger Relationships with Yourself and Others

Join us for our FINAL session! Becoming a leader worth following is an "inside" job beginning with the relationship you have with yourself. Leading from the heart, versus the head, requires a willingness to:
    • look within, to know yourself, to be aware of your emotions
    • identify the emotions you have in the moment,  manage your emotional reactions,
    • understand how they impact your behavior, your decision making, and your relationship with others.
This level of self-awareness provides the opening for leaders to recognize others' emotions, understand them, and manage relationships effectively.  Unlike the Intelligence Quotient, research studies show that emotional intelligence can be improved.  It is a set of skills that can be learned and practiced.  In this series, we will explore three pursuits of the Six Seconds Model: Know Yourself, Choose Yourself, Give Yourself, along with a set of learnable skills that support your journey to BE the leader worth following.

Join our Past President, Anita, the Passionista, Torres, to explore the GIVE YOURSELF pursuit!

    Date: Wednesday, September 17, 2014

    Time: 1:00-2:30 PM

Virtual online meeting details will be sent to all registrants two days prior to the event.

Each contestant will have 12 minutes to show us his or her best stuff. If you’re looking for ideas, here’s what Sacramento ASTD Chapter Members saw in past years at their showdowns – training games, graphics created in real time to support training, improvisational methods for trainers, a singer and motivational speaker straight from Texas (with her pink guitar). In 2010, Allen Fadden won with some unconventional thinking and $2 bill tossing, 2011 OD Elvis (Tom Moore) blew everyone’s minds… What will happen in 2014 in Central Florida? It is up to you! Have fun with it!

    Advanced eLearning

    Getting to Know Your

    Friday, September 26th, 2014

    8:00AM - 4:00PM

Location:  Florida Virtual Schools - MetroWest

    It’s finally here!

Only $80 for members until Monday 9/15!

You have been provided the tools at your job to create eLearning, but it seems so overwhelming?

    Where do you start?

    Which tool do you use?

How do you create something that looks modern and is visually appealing?

There are a few industry standard tools that we all need to be familiar with, such as Adobe Presenter or Captivate. There are also tools that are fairly new on the block…but they are starting to make an impact on how we present our learning content. The old standby of PowerPoint is slowly becoming just another tool in the tool belt.

What about Camtasia, PowToon, or Prezi? Have you heard about or tried rapid design tools like these?

Knowing how to use a tool to create a result is one thing, but being able to make your project visually appealing and looking modern is a whole different skillset you need in your arsenal as well.

Sometimes, it isn’t just about what you know. It can be about WHO you know. Our personal learning network is just as valuable an asset for us as is our skills that we have. As such, an opportunity to learn from and socialize with others in your field can create relationships that, in the long run, are impossible to place a price tag onto.

In the last of our 2014 eLearning and Instructional Design programs, you will learn about these types of tools, as well as many other tips, tricks, and the ability to network with others who are trying to grow in their career, just like you.

Come along with our experienced presenters as we explore these topics in a power-packed, hands-on day. We are going to provide you with experience stretching your visual design muscles and you will get to try out both simple and more complex rapid development tools.

One of our regular Learning Technology presenters, Barry Nadler, will help you find your visual style and coach you as you walk through the process of modeling a design that inspires you so you can turn it into a professional looking eLearning design.

Julie Strauss, of BlueStreak eLearning, will help you develop quick and easy screen captures for software training using Camtasia. If you are on a limited budget, but want to produce a quality product for your learners, this may be your solution!

Barry Nadler will also give you a tour of what Adobe Presenter 9 can offer you in a low- budget rapid design solution. As part of this tour, you will get to practice writing short scripts and recording audio and video.

Two of our students from ISD Bootcamp will share a portion of their projects with you and de-construct how they were developed. They will show you how they used Prezi and PowToon to create professional presentations in a matter of hours. Then, they will guide you as you get to create one for yourself.

Nick Elkins, of Artisan eLearning, will provide you with a three-hour, hands-on practice session using the eLearning industry’s #1 rapid development tool, Adobe Captivate. If you are new to eLearning or are not familiar with this tool, you won’t believe what it can do for you and how it can streamline some of your development processes.

To sweeten the deal for you, we have decided to offer an early-bird discount of $80 per person (CFC-ASTD Members Only) and $95 per person for non-members. Based on what we have seen at our other Professional Development events, we expect this event to fill up fast, so.....

COMING FULL CIRCLE...... Seeing the value of eLearning professional development through our chapter over this year.

    Where have we been....

As you may be aware, it takes a wide range of skillsets to be an eLearning professional.  Throughout this year, the CFC-ASTD chapter has provided a series of learning experiences that would normally cost you well over $500 for all of it.

Throughout is year, we offered you several opportunities for professional development for very reasonable investments on your part.

    • Introduction to eLearning Day – we spent a full day introducing you to many of the aspects of eLearning, including what constitutes eLearning, an introduction to ISD/project management/storyboarding, an introduction to what an LMS can offer you, an overview and comparison of some of the top industry tools, and examples of what it means to flip the classroom. Total Cost = $30.
    • Conference Buddies at the eLearning Guild’s Learning Solutions Conference. This event offered direct access to some of leading experts in the industry, the ability to see projects other industry professionals are creating, as well as a view into the future direction of your eLearning profession. Total Cost = FREE
    • ISD Bootcamp – This 4-week event was a hands-on workshop where 20 individuals got to work and learn directly with local chapter leaders through the Instructional Design process on projects they presented at the end of the event. They also became intimately familiar with when and how to practically apply learning theories and models to real-life projects. Total Cost = $60

SO.... What was your final out of pocket if you participated in all of the events we offered?

Can you imagine what professionals got out of this if they attended all three of these events? And, we aren’t done yet!

Our goal for this entire series of professional development opportunities was to keep your ENTIRE investment into your growth as a professional under $200.

As such, we are offering this last Professional Development opportunity in 2014 to you for only $95 per person (CFC ASTD member price)

If you attended all four opportunities, it would only be a total investment into yourself of $185. That’s truly a bargain, considering the costs of industry-level certificate training and your access to industry professionals that can assist you in building your career.

    Program Description:

Join us for a tour of the simulation labs at the National Simulation Center with Thomas L. Baptiste, Lt. Gen, USAF (Ret)

Enter The National Center for Simulation

During the past 49+ years, Central Florida has quietly grown to become the epicenter of the Modeling, Simulation & Training (MS&T) Industry in the United States and arguably in the world.   With more than 150 companies across the Central Florida high tech corridor involved, this $5+ billion per year industry provides critically needed technology to support our war fighters and has been a survivor in what has been a sluggish economy.  Come and listen to Thomas L. Baptiste, Lt Gen, USAF (Ret), President & CEO, National Center for Simulation outline how Industry, Academia and smart Government have helped this cluster develop and grow and why it is vitally important to the future of a more diversified Florida economy.  He will also discuss promising opportunities on the horizon in a variety of other non-defense sectors of the economy (e.g. medical simulation, education, homeland security, entertainment, serious games and digital media).  Following a short orientation brief, you will have the opportunity to visit a number of the University of Central Florida Institute for Simulation & Training (UCF/IST) Labs to see cutting edge technology.

    Featured Presenter:

Thomas L. Baptiste, Lt. Gen, USAF (Ret)

Lt Gen (Ret) Thomas L. Baptiste completed his 34 year military career as the Deputy Chairman, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee, Brussels, Belgium where he served as the second most senior military advisor to the NATO Secretary General.  A Command Fighter Pilot, Lt Gen (Ret) Baptiste accumulated nearly 3,000 flight hours in the F-4 Phantom, the F-16 Fighting Falcon and a variety of trainer aircraft.  Based on that experience, he can speak passionately about the power of simulation and its importance to the readiness of America’s war fighters.

After four years of planning and construction, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant opened in 2005 in Orland Park, a south suburb of Chicago. The concept was unique. We would create a signature menu with a selection of dishes designed to pair perfectly with our own Cooper’s Hawk wines, made in our own private winery. With sophisticated food and exceptional wines, our concept was born.

The Cooper’s Hawk concept includes four distinct components: an upscale casual dining restaurant, full-service bar, private barrel-aging room, and Napa-style tasting room and retail gift store…all under one roof. Each Cooper’s Hawk location is distinctive in layout and décor, but carries the same warmth and elegance that guests have come to expect.
